A man in the United States is facing a new federal charges over allegedly importing and selling a potent erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra.

The Food and Drug Administration said the man, who is being treated for a heart condition called angina, is facing a criminal charge for importing and selling the drug. A federal judge on Friday rejected his request to plead guilty to an unspecified charge of importing and selling the drug and ordered the man to pay the federal poverty level, $1.25 million.

The man is scheduled to be sentenced on July 24. His attorney, Thomas Klee, said he would like to know the reason for his plea.

“This is not a new offense and will likely go unaddressed in the court of law,” Klee told theWall Street Journal.

Klee said his client faces federal charges that he had imported and sold Viagra and another prescription medicine that was the same drug but without the name of the drug, but without the name of the manufacturer or the manufacturer's name. Klee said the drug was not the same medicine that was manufactured by the manufacturer.

The FDA said it would consider recommending a "black box” warning to the judge if the case was considered by a judge who will determine if the drug was manufactured by another company.

Viagra has been a drug for decades. It was approved in the United States in 1998 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The drug can cause erections only when the user is sexually aroused. A man with the condition cannot get an erection without sexual arousal.
